This weekend saw the 2nd round of the President’s Putter, and the top 8 players advancing to the matchplay stage, with top seed Martin Murphy facing a tough semi final match against Simon Griffiths.
Malcolm Wood came out on top in Sunday’s Mid Summer Medal with a cracking score of 69, which included 2s on the 3rd and 14th hole. 8 weeks have now passed since George Williams scored an ace on the 16th meaning the hole in one pot has now risen to £65.80 , ready to be paid out to the next hole in one in a club competition by a 2c club entrant – you have to be in it to win it!
Last Thursday we welcomed Chevin Golf Club to play in testing windy conditions. This represented my first full 18 holes at Ashbourne and the golf course was an absolute joy to play, with the condition of the golf course showing just how hard our small but talented team of greenkeepers are working. Myself and Mr Captain Steve Hall took on our Chevin counterparts Captain Neil and Professional Willie. Despite losing the first to birdie, Steve and I gelled great as a team to be 6 up through 10, talk of an early pint was soon silenced as we proceeded to lose the next 3 holes, however I made a nice 2 on 14 and a solid strike to the heart of the 16th from Steve saw us run out 4&2 winners, with Team Ashbourne winning the match 4-2.
Our next 2 club matches are at home to Rolls Royce on Monday, 10 July and away at Allestree on Thursday, 13 July. All club members are encouraged to play – put your name down on the list in the locker room.
To celebrate Brooks Koepka’s US Open victory I am offering for one week only a FREE dozen TP5 golf balls for any stock purchase of M2 Driver or Irons, or 6 balls for any fairway wood or hybrid purchase, meaning you will not only receive a FREE custom fitting and FREE lesson but also a dozen balls worth £42.95! Following the decision of Nike to cease their involvement in equipment manufacturing Brooks has by his own choice played the M2 Driver and Fairway wood.
In the coming weeks I plan to include in my weekly newsletter some hints and tips to plot your way round our golf course. If there is any hole which stands out as a hole you need some help with please let me know and I will feature this in the next few weeks.
