What a week at Ashbourne! The only place to start is Steve Hall’s Captain’s Day on Sunday. A magnificent turn out of 109 gents and 18 ladies provided Steve with the perfect support for his day. All competitors were all refreshed at the halfway house by Sue and Heather, with the day completed with prize presentation and BBQ, which fittingly saw our patio covered in sunshine. A day like this shows why Ashbourne is known as “The Friendly Club” and all credit to Steve for putting this day on. On the golf side of things yet again we saw a day of great scoring with Gavin Ratcliffe claiming the overall prize with a score of 43 points. This weekend is the Job Scratch Cup and Job Medal, with the scratch event played over 36 holes on Saturday. Please add your name to the list on the noticeboard. In other news this week I made my first visit to Allestree Park to play alongside Captain Steve. We were greeted by a very interesting and well presented golf course, with great hospitality from our hosts. Again myself and Steve gelled well as a pair mixing birdies and nett birdies to come out 6&4 winners, which leaves us unbeaten when playing in Derbyshire (we don’t talk about our trip over the border any more!). To complete a great evening Ashbourne won the match 4.5points to 1.5. Our next club match is at home to Matlock on Thursday, 3 August at 4pm. If you’d like to play add your name to the list in the locker room.
Joining the 'Ace' club Congratulations to member and Derbyshire Union President Tony Broadhurst for his hole in one on the 5th hole at Longcliffe Golf Club using a 5 iron. Well played Tony! |
