In the golfing world this week…

Did you see Tiger’s teaser on social media last week? Woods posted a video of him practicing his pitching on Thursday (watch video) with the comment, ‘Dr. gave me the ok to start pitching’. You’ll be aware that the 14-time major winner is recovering from his fourth back surgery but the question still remains: will he ever return to his best?

Taking place this week is the 2017 World Long Drive Championship in America. Britain’s best hope is Joe Miller - last year’s champion - but it’ll take something hugely impressive to beat World Number One Maurice Allen, whose longest drive this season is a mere 484 yards...

This week’s September Medal saw Jonathon Clare shoot a great nett 65 to win by 3 shots from Dean Higton, and Sunday’s Autumn Stableford was won by John Hammond with 37 points in blustery conditions.

Also on Sunday we held our Family Fun Day, which despite the weather was very well attended, with many youngsters enjoying the chance to hit some shots for the first time. As the winter moves ever closer I will be launching some new junior academy dates for Saturday mornings – see next week's newsletter for all the information.

DO THE RIGHT THING

If you find yourself holding up the group behind then we always advise that you invite them to play through with a quick wave, like in this photo. If you don’t it can not only delay that group, but it’s likely to hold up the groups behind them too.

MYTH BUSTER

It’s a common myth that single players have no standing on the course. The truth is that they must be treated the same as any two-ball, three-ball or four-ball when it comes to pace of play etiquette and waving them through.
