All roads lead to Paris… The finale of the Made in Denmark tournament was an all-English affair, with a four-way play-off between Lee Westwood, Jonathan ‘Jigger’ Thomson, Steven Brown and eventual winner Matt Wallace. The tournament was played at the home course of Ryder Cup Captain, Thomas Bjorn, and the event has become a firm favourite with both players and fans alike. Due to the European Tour tournament rescheduling that will take place next year, the Made in Denmark will move to the week of BMW PGA at Wentworth and hopes to attract even more big names. Thomas Bjorn yesterday announced Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey and Ian Poulter as his 4 wildcard picks for the upcoming Ryder Cup. Bjorn clearly believes his team needed bolstering with some Ryder Cup experience and has plenty of that in the 4 players he has selected. Rewind 18 months to Garcia winning his first Green Jacket it would be hard to believe his participation in France would have been in any doubt, but his slide in form has resulted in him not only requiring a selection but many, myself included, questioning his selection in the team. I would have loved to have seen Matt Wallace get the nod. His rise through professional golf has been as astonishing as it has been rapid and looked sure to thrive on the biggest stage of all. I’d love to hear who you’d have picked given the chance. Let me know your thoughts here on the wildcard picks. Click here to let me know. |
